See You On The Other Side
The summary for this fan fic states that Bella dies, but is resurrected with no memory of her previous life. This stuck out to me as an interesting concept because how could she possibly know about her friendship with Jacob, her relationship with Edward, or what Edward actually was. However, as i began reading the first chapter, i quickly became confused. Some of the things described couldn't happen in the sequence in which they had been put into. As i got further into the chapter, things became more and more disjointed, and i began to feel frustrated. The POV changes seemed unnecessary and repetative, and i was unsure about where some of the character interactions described actually happened.
Finding The Light
Finding The Light picks up partway through New Moon, during Bella's catatonic phase after Edward's depature. However, instead of following the original plot, where Bella decides to become reckless in order to hear Edward's voice and become friends with Jacob, her father Charlie says two words 'used to' that change her outlook on life. No longer is she the Bella Swan she 'used to' be, because she died figuratively when Edward left, but she is a new person. I enjoyed the use of fairytale comparisons in the Prologue, because it was similar to Stephanie Meyers' use of comparisons between Romeo and Juliet. However, it's length leaves me wanting to see how Bella does go about changing herself.
Overall, not a bad piece of writing. I just with that it was longer.
SOS
Maroon seems to keep only the characters from Twilight. It's a story about the Forks High School Seniors going on a field trip to the Bahamas, but on their way there, their boat hits a glacier and gets torn apart, leaving the students to find their way to the closest island and becoming marooned. The author has taken the werewolves from the Quileute tribe, and made them seniors at the high school, along with Jacob Black, who is Bella's friend. Also in their group of friends is Angela Webber and Alice Cullen. In the first chapter, the characters are the only link to the original story, other than Jacob's apparent love for Bella. From what i've read, it seems to be a lot like the TV show Lost, where a group of people are left to fend for themselves on an island and survive for as long as possible. Some of the characters that have been added are a little irritating, but the plot line is good and i only read up to 1000 words to get a feel of it, and i do want to keep reading.
Bella and Jacob's friendship doesn't really move into relationships status during those 1000 words, but you can tell that it's coming because of the way that their interactions are beginning to be described. It's kept me interested, and i'd be willing to read more.
The Legacy of Dr. Isabella Swan
The plot is placed after Edward leaves in New Moon. However, he doesn't come back. There's no cliff diving, no hallucinations. Instead, Bella gets a hold on herself and moves on with her life, eventually becoming a Doctor. She passes away as a human, at the age of 52. Edward however, has never forgotten about her, nor moved on from his love from her, and therefore takes it upon himself to return to Forks and see what had become of the love of his life after his depature.
At first it was a little disorientating to read, because it seemed to go from Edward's thoughts to what seemed like his family's thoughts that he was reading, but i quickly realised that they were having a conversation around him, and it was breaking up his thoughts. The first chapter is interesting enough, because of the background information about the medical company Bella was responsible for creating. It also made good use of a swan as a symbol, and i'm a big fan of symbolism like that in written texts. I just wish that the parts of the text that were dialogue were set out a little better, because it was a little confusing.
The Dads of Forks Reading The Twilight Saga
This fan fic is based around some of the male characters in Twilight - Charlie Swan (Bella's father), Billy Black (Jacob's Father) and Carlisle and Edward Cullen. It's set just before Bella's return to Forks after many years absent, even for the holidays. Charlie wakes up one morning to find a box containting 5 books, Twilight, Midnight Sun, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, and a note saying to contact the aforementioned men and bring them to his house for a reading of the books. The note states that the books will help with the future, and that they must all keep an open mind. It's basically the fathers and Edward reading what is going to happen once Bella moves to Forks, and seeing how the future will play out and tips on how to help out.
I've only read the first chapter, which is the reading of the first chapter of Twilight, and it is a little slow because of the huge blocks of text from Twilight which i've read before. However, i like the idea of the men all being brought together to talk about and find out about what is going to impact their lives grately. I'll probably keep reading it.
